The Early Years

Ryan-Al Door Systems was founded in June 2003 by President / CEO Rick Trainor. It was founded on the premise of serving the housing industry with an alternative offshore supplier of entry doors. Rick’s experience as a vice president of Sales and Marketing in the hardware / housing industry had afforded him numerous valuable connections with suppliers and end-users in the entry door market. Thus, the Ryan-Al adventure began.

For the first three years of the company’s existence, Ryan-Al had sourced steel door suppliers for the manufactured housing and shed door industries. During the same period, Ryan-Al also had been commissioned to source a fiberglass entry door producer for the single-family housing sector.

In 2006, Ryan-Al incorporated into Ryan-Al, Inc. and made a substantial monetary investment with an offshore fiberglass door manufacturer. Ryan-Al, Inc. purchased the necessary equipment and provided the customer base to launch the company into the fiberglass door entry market. However, differences of opinion between Ryan-Al and the offshore company over how to proceed with the business led to the dissolution of the partnership in late 2007.

A Fiberglass Future

Ryan-Al, Inc. remained convinced that the fiberglass entry door market was the way of the future vs. the very competitive steel door market. Therefore, Ryan-Al, Inc. made another major capital investment and purchased all the necessary equipment to open its own fiberglass door manufacturing facility.

Shortly after Ryan-Al opened its fiberglass door factory, the shed door industry began transitioning from steel or wood doors to fiberglass doors. With the benefit of having a long-time customer who is a distributor in the shed component part industry, we began providing fiberglass doors to the shed industry in mid-2008.

Without a comprehensive knowledge of the shed door industry, we took what we had learned from the housing entry door sector and applied it to the shed industry. Little did we know, there is little, if no comparison between the two industries. We began making our doors in the same manner as any other fiberglass door supplier: Just cut down a housing entry door, apply some additional wood blocks and shazaam! You have a shed door. WRONG!

The Turning Point

Up until early 2013, we were experiencing many failures and fielding many complaints about our product in the market. Then, in mid-2013, the magic began to happen. We incorporated an American-made component part and changed another integral component part that greatly enhanced the quality of our product. The bleeding didn’t completely stop, but at least it slowed to a manageable pace.

During the next three years, we changed our focus to make the fiberglass shed door our core product. We rebuilt all of our molds to make them proportionately and aesthetically correct. We stopped cutting down, or modifying, entry doors and trying to pass them off as shed doors. When an entry door is cut down, the panels become out of proportion, making the door aesthetically incorrect which diminishes the overall value of the shed. The final step was to shore up the structural integrity of our product, as a shed door has to be much more durable than an entry door. We strengthened our inner frame system to make it the most durable on the market.

The above-mentioned changes to our product have set the stage for Ryan-Al to take its place as the most progressive and innovative component part supplier to the shed industry. Also, this further supports our claim as being the WORLD’S ONLY fiberglass shed door manufacturer as our competitors are only supplying modified housing doors. Couple this with the introduction of our new educational and marketing programs, plus ongoing new products, we are looking forward to the coming years with keen anticipation.
